The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Adult Swim will keep the Harvey Birdman franchise alive with a series order of the spinoff Birdgirl starring Paget Brewster reprising her role from the parent show.

The series, created and executive produced by original series creators Michael Ouweleen and Erik Richter, will follow Judy Ken Sebben (aka Birdgirl) as she struggles to find a way to balance her work and superhero lives after being named CEO of the world’s largest and most nonsensical corporation, Sebben & Sebben. With her assembled Birdteam, they attempt to bring the company into the modern times by day and by midafternoon they must help defuse a lot of bad situations, many of which they might have caused.
The original Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, itself a spinoff of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, ran for four seasons and 39 episodes from 2005-07 in the early days of Adult Swim and received rave reviews from critics and audiences and helped the still burgeoning network establish a tone for its original series. Brewster recurred on the series, appearing in nine episodes, and now that her long-running CBS police procedural Criminal Minds is coming to an end, her starring role could help carry the series into multiple seasons.
