On WWE Raw, Seth Rollins was named the special guest referee for the SummerSlam match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. CM Punk, who returned to the show, addressed the big question by announcing that he has been medically cleared to wrestle.
CM Punk challenged Drew McIntyre, demanding that he come to the ring. McIntyre came and voiced his desire for a showdown with Punk. Despite the intense tension, McIntyre said he wasn’t ready for a physical fight at that moment. Ignoring McIntyre, Punk, fueled by anger, charged at him on the ramp to an expected fight.
Before the two could engage in a physical confrontation, WWE Raw General Manager Adam Pearce intervened, ordering security to separate McIntyre and Punk. Pearce sternly warned that if either man threw the first punch, they would be suspended. He also mentioned that their actions had caused too much chaos and left him with a referee problem.
Amid the chaos, Seth Rollins walked down to the ring. While security held back Punk and McIntyre, Rollins announced he would serve as the special guest referee for their SummerSlam match. Both Punk and McIntyre clearly showed their displeasure, as Rollins danced and laughed. It appeared Drew McIntyre remained frustrated with the announcement, as he called out Rollins on X (formerly Twitter).
Drew McIntyre accuses Seth Rollins of being a spotlight junkie
Earlier this year, at WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre issued a direct warning to Seth Rollins. McIntyre pleaded with Rollins to avoid involving himself in The Bloodline’s business and instead focus on their World Title match. Despite this plea, Rollins disregarded McIntyre’s advice, prompting McIntyre to label him a ‘spotlight junkie.’
With Rollins officially named the special guest referee, McIntyre has once again expressed his frustration. The Scottish Warrior has once again labeled Rollins a “spotlight junkie,” repeating his statement that Rollins is more interested in the spotlight than the match.
With Seth Rollins now announced as the special guest referee for the match, and given his history with both Punk and McIntyre, it will be interesting to see how things unfold at WWE SummerSlam.
