One-half of the former WWE Tag Team Champions, The Miz, lost his titles on Raw a few weeks ago ahead of WWE SummerSlam 2024. The Miz and R-Truth revived their tag team, Awesome Truth, which they originally formed in 2011.
Reforming Awesome Truth turned out to be the best decision for The Miz and R-Truth. They both got their WrestleMania moment as a tag team when they won the Raw Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 40. However, their reign was short-lived. Liv Morgan tricked R-Truth into a title defense against The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, ultimately costing them the gold on Raw a few weeks ago.
With SummerSlam approaching and taking place in The Miz’s hometown, the question remains: will The Awesome Truth get a shot at redemption? Despite vowing to reclaim their titles, they haven’t received a rematch. With WWE now trimming the card at PLEs to only four or five matches, the chances seem uncertain. The Miz himself recently addressed this on TV Insider.
He stated, “Triple H is one of the best minds this business has ever seen. The way he is able to not only do what he is doing right now, but he is there as a resource… If I need to know what we are looking for in a match, he would be able to tell me in-depth what he is looking for and how we can get the crowd to gravitate toward the storyline. The energy in the locker room is unbelievable because wrestling has never been so hot. If you look at it, think of all the top stars right now. I love what we’re doing with these PLEs (Premium Live Events) where we’re having five to six matches.”
The Miz uncertain about his WWE SummerSlam match
While former tag team champion The Miz is loving the new concept of WWE PLEs having fewer matches, he now finds himself in a tough position. In the same interview, he stated that he is unsure if he will have a match at SummerSlam in Cleveland.
He stated, “There are longer matches with storylines that have been built and are ready for a PLE. You look at SummerSlam now. It’s at the Cleveland Browns stadium. I don’t know what I’m doing, and it’s in my hometown. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I don’t think we will ever go back to that stadium because they might get a new stadium. This stadium that I have grown up watching the Cleveland Browns games in, I don’t know if I have a match. You look at the storylines right now, and it’s insane how good they are… It’s very tough to get on a PLE now. You have to be on the top of your game. I understand more than anyone because I’ve been here for 20 years.”
While only two matches have been confirmed for the show, recent speculation suggests that WWE doesn’t have a plan for The Miz. However, with SummerSlam being three weeks away, plans can always change.
