A significant development regarding the absence of AEW standout MJF has come to light, shedding light on his recent activities. Former AEW World Champion MJF has been notably absent from AEW programming since the Worlds End pay-per-view on December 30. However, he hasn’t been inactive during this time.
The latest reports indicate that MJF has been busy wrapping up filming for his second movie role amid his hiatus from television appearances. According to Deadline, the filming for the upcoming Jewish comedy movie ‘The Floaters’ has concluded. The former World Champion will play one of the starring roles in the film. The lead actors in the movie include Jackie Tohn and Sarah Podemski, with Aya Cash, Judah Lewis, Nina Bloomgarden, Jake Ryan, and Seth Green also joining the cast alongside MJF.
According to Deadline, the movie’s synopsis is as follows: “The movie follows struggling musician Nomi (Tohn) who accepts a last-resort job from her overachiever best friend Mara (Podemski): mentoring misfit campers, the “Floaters,” at their childhood Jewish summer camp. As the camp struggles to survive amidst competition with a longtime rival, Nomi, the Floaters, and Mara must overcome their differences to bring the community together and save the camp.”
This isn’t MJF’s first movie appearance. He was previously in a movie called “The Iron Claw,” which was about the Von Erich family. The movie was led by Zac Efron, and MJF was credited as an executive producer. It was released on December 22, 2023.
What’s next for AEW star MJF?
During AEW Worlds End, MJF was surprised when his best friend, Adam Cole, revealed himself as the Devil, alongside Roderick Strong, Wardlow, and Kingdom. Following an attack by Strong and Wardlow, MJF was left down in the ring. Meanwhile, Cole stood tall with his newly formed faction.
Recently, MJF’s absence from the official AEW promotion website has sparked speculation among fans. Some attribute it to the ongoing 2024 bidding war storyline, while others believe he may have already signed for the promotion. Additionally, WWE sources have indicated that MJF may have recommitted to AEW following All Out 2022.
However, it seems MJF will be taking a break for now due to injuries, including a partially torn labrum suffered during his match against Jay White at Full Gear. Despite competing until AEW Worlds End, where he lost the title to Samoa Joe, it appears MJF will focus on recovery before returning to the ring.
