WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam (RVD) has revealed that his much-anticipated WrestleMania 40 appearance has been allegedly canceled. He shocked the wrestling fans by making his AEW debut on the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite. He faced Jack Perry for the FTW Championship. Earlier this year, he hinted at potential consequences for his WWE future due to his newfound association with AEW.
Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021, Rob Van Dam has a career spanning nearly four decades. Furthermore, he charmed his fans by performing across various promotions like WWE, ECW, WCW, and TNA. Despite his two-decade tenure with WWE, RVD debuted in AEW, potentially impacting his chance to appear at WrestleMania 40.
Speaking on the “Marty Jannetty’s Party With Marty” podcast, RVD explained that his WrestleMania 40 appearance was allegedly canceled due to his appearances in AEW.
“Allegedly I got booked for an appearance, and then allegedly that appearance was canceled when I showed up on an alleged competitor’s TV program, and then allegedly I might be pre-booked — either way, I’m going to be there at WrestleCon!” he said.
As WrestleMania 40 approaches, it will be intriguing to see if WWE and RVD can reach a settlement to pave the way for the ECW legend’s appearance in Philadelphia.
Has WWE Hall of Famer RVD sign a contract with AEW?
The speculation surrounding RVD’s contract status with AEW gained momentum after his unexpected debut on AEW Dynamite. Despite concerns that this move might strain his ties with WWE, RVD did not officially sign a contract with AEW.
RVD has made subsequent appearances on AEW programming, teaming up with HOOK. Notably, RVD’s most recent match occurred on the October 25 edition of AEW Dynamite, where he and HOOK secured a victory over Dark Order’s John Silver and Alex Reynolds.
It will be interesting to see whether RVD makes any more appearances in the AEW program in the future.
