The Flash VFX Featurette Teases Atom Smasher

A new Flash VFX featurette shows off the season two debut of Atom Smasher

There are just 11 days to go before Central City’s Scarlet Speedster returns to The CW and, to whet the appetites of eager fans, the network has today released a Flash VFX featurette that explores the work that has gone into pushing the technology as far as possible. As Flash VFX supervisor Armen Kevorkian explains in the player below, the range of Flash VFX spans from an ever-growing Central City CGI model to foes like Gorilla Grodd and the upcoming Atom Smasher!

Atom Smasher, who has the genetically inherited ability to control his size and density, was created by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway and began as a villain, Nuklon, in 1983’s “All-Star Squadron” #25. It was later that artist Mike Machlan helped shape his Atom Smasher identity with the character going on to become and hero and even a member of the Justice League.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. The new season will see the addition of newcomers Violett Beane as the female speedster Jesse Quick, Demore Barnes as Tokamak, and Candyman himself Tony Todd as the voice of the new “big bad,” Zoom. The Flash is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter.

Following the defeat of Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash quickly turned their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, which fans last saw consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but will he actually be able to save his city from impending doom?

The Flash will premiere its second season with a brand new episode, “The Man Who Saved Central City,” on Tuesday, October 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
