The full Winning Time Season 2 trailer for Max‘s sports comedy-drama chronicles the rise of the Lakers dynasty. Season 2 is scheduled to air on August 6 on HBO, and will also stream on Max.

The video stokes the long-standing rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The latter team is determined to defeat the Lakers following their defeat last season. It also previews rising tensions among the Lakers team due to Magic’s growing popularity, as well as between Pat Riley and Paul Westhead.

Meanwhile, Jeanie faces competition at work after her father decides to get her brothers involved in the business.

What to Expect in Winning Time Season 2?

“A fast-break series chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties — a team that defined an era, both on and off the court,” reads the logline. “Season two hones in on the period just after the Finals in 1980 through 1984, culminating in the first professional rematch of the era’s greatest stars: Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.”

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty The series is written and co-created by Max Borenstein, and Jim Hecht, who are also executive producing. The story is based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. It is executive produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick for Hyperobject Industries, with McKay also directing the pilot. Jason Shuman, Scott Stephens, and Rodney Barnes are also executive producing.
