His Dark Materials Season 3 Trailer Previews the Final Season

HBO has dropped the official His Dark Materials Season 3 trailer for the upcoming return of BBC One’s fantasy drama, which stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, and Ruth Wilson. The final season is slated to premiere on December 5. Two new episodes will debut each week leading up to the series finale on December 26.

The video gives us a preview of Lyra and Will’s epic multiversal journey as she attempts to bring her best friend Roger back to life. Meanwhile, the Magisterium continues to pursue Lyra and Mrs. Coulter due to the game-changing prophecy involving Lyra. It also teases Asriel’s army against the Authority.

Based on Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy novel series, His Dark Materials centers around a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. The final season will see Will, the bearer of The Subtle Knife, and Lyra, the prophesied child, travel through multiple worlds to find and protect each other.

“In the final chapter of this epic fantasy series, Lyra, the prophesied child, and Will, the bearer of The Subtle Knife, must journey to a dark place from which no one has ever returned,” reads the synopsis. “As her father’s great war against the Authority edges closer, they will learn that saving the worlds comes at a terrible price.”

Season 3 will feature returning cast members including Dafne Keen, Amir Wilson, Ruth Wilson, Simone Kirby, Will Keen, Jade Anouka, Ruta Gedmintas, James McAvoy, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will be directed by Amit Gupta, Charles Martin, and Weronika Tofilska.

They will be joined by new cast members Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jamie Ward, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, Chipo Chung, and Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe.

His Dark Materials is produced by Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema for BBC One and HBO. Executive producers are Dan McCulloch, Jane Tranter, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, Philip Pullman, Jack Thorne, Tom Hooper, Deborah Forte, Toby Emmerich, Carolyn Blackwood, and Ben Irving.
