The world has been without the unique comedic talents of Mike Myers for a long while. His last starring role outside the world of Shrek was in The Love Guru, a poorly received outing to say the least. Netflix is willing to roll the dice on The Pentaverate, a comedy series that sees Myers making up for lost time by bringing eight new characters to life all at once.

The new trailer for the show almost showcases all those roles, including the four current members of the titular group of five. Myers plays a collection of powerful men who run things behind the scenes, an Illuminati-type setup that’s such a blatant pull that the trailer makes jokes about how they’re similar. Myers also plays a flailing Canadian reporter and one of the reporter’s assistants, both of whom are seeking to expose the secret society and get one last big scoop.
Mike Myers cannot play every character in the show (at least not this time around), so he has some help from a star-studded lineup that includes Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West. Rob Lowe also appears early on to introduce some of Meyer’s characters as only he can, although his role seems to be more of a cameo than anything.

The rest of the trailer showcases a lot of improbable events that recall the best of the Mike Myers filmography. One can only hope that his time away has recharged his batteries and let him produce something more like Austin Powers and less like The Cat in the Hat. We’ll all find out together when The Pentaverate premieres on Netflix on May 5.
