Dave Chappelle Drops Surprise New Special 8:46 on Netflix’s YouTube

Dave Chappelle has dropped a new special, 8:46, on Netflix’s comedy YouTube page. The title of the surprise special is a reference to the amount of time Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin had his knee on George Floyd’s neck, resulting in Floyd’s death. The special runs for 27 minutes and includes a link to the Equal Justice Initiative. You can watch 8:46 in full below!

The special was performed on June 6 in Yellow Springs, Ohio in front of a socially-distanced audience who all wore masks in an outdoor setup, according to IndieWire. Much of the special centers around George Floyd’s death and the subsequent intentional protests.

Chappelle also calls out CNN host Don Lemon for criticizing Hollywood celebrities for remaining silent on police brutality: “This is the streets talking for themselves, they don’t need me right now. I kept my mouth shut. And I’ll keep my mouth shut. Don’t think my silence is complicit. Why would anyone care what their favorite comedian thinks after they saw a police officer kneel on a man’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds? I can’t get that number out of my head.”

Fox News host Laura Ingraham and Candance Owens are among conservative commentators that the comedian also slams during the special.
