The series, helmed by longtime group collaborator Sacha Jenkins (Burn Motherf*cker, Burn!), chronicles the titular rap group’s career that now spans over 28 years, going back to the group’s debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),” which just celebrated its 25th anniversary in November 2018 and featured hits including “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck” and “Method Man” and is considered by most to be one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

Of Mics and Men will also over the group’s founding members, RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa and Cappadonna, and their lives growing up in the dangerous streets of ’70s and ’80s era Brooklyn and Staten Island, with many having been childhood friends before starting the group. Together they made music that not only got crowds jumping in clubs and inspiring future artists, but they made music that also highlighted many of the struggles they faced growing up in these areas and many of the struggles younger generations are still facing today, from poverty to race.

Jenkins has been with the group since the ’90s, having gotten Wu-Tang their first magazine cover in one of hip-hop’s first magazines Beat Down as the co-founding publisher of the magazine, and is responsible for the relaunching of Brooklyn media company Mass Appeal in 2013, who have been behind such hit artists as Nas, Earl Sweatshirt and Run the Jewels since its revitalization.

Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men is set to make its Sundance debut on Monday, January 28.
