Gal Gadot will forgo her Lasso of Truth for her next role as she’s entered talks to play Hedy Lamarr in an upcoming Showtime limited series about the famed actress and inventor, according to Deadline. Gadot will executive produce the series alongside Sarah Treem (The Affair), Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale), her producing partner Yaron Varasno and Endeavor Entertainment.
Treem is in early talks to write the series, according to the report, based on an idea she conceived and shared with Gadot. The Wonder Woman star evidently had been looking for a project about Lamarr, and “sparked to” Treem’s concept.
Austrian-born Lamarr was a popular actress in the 1940s, starring in such films as Algiers, Boom Town, I Take This Woman, Comrade X, Come Live with Me and Samson and Delilah. However, she is most famous for her work as an inventor. During World War II she helped create a radio guidance system for allied torpedoes that utilized spectrum and frequency. Today, this same technology is used to enable Bluetooth and WiFi.
Gadot has a number of projects in pre-production, including the Dwayne Johnson vehicle Red Notice, but will next be seen in the anticipated Wonder Woman 1984, directed by Patty Jenkins and co-starring Chris Pine (Into the Woods), set for release on November 1, 2019.
