Variety is reporting that Amazon has picked up US rights to Zero Zero Zero, the new eight-part TV series from the creators of the 2014 hit Gomorrah. Andrea Riseborough (Waco), Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary) and Harold Torres (Sin Nombre) have all signed on to star in the series from Italy-based production company Cattleya. The series has already begun production.
Zero Zero Zero centers around the power struggle over the cocaine trade by following a shipment of coke from the Americas to Europe. Mexican cartels, the Calabrian mafia and corrupt businessmen all battle each other for power over the drugs.
Adapted from Roberto Saviano’s book, Zero Zero Zero will be directed by Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah), Pablo Trapero (The Clan) and Janus Metz (True Detective).
“We are going to do it by following a container ship and its load from its point of departure in Mexico to its final destination in Calabria, describing how the international trafficking of this special ‘commodity’ is affecting the market, the world economy and even our lives,” Sollima said. “This special good is cocaine, and its journey is our own.”
