Ian Somerhalder embraces the vampire genre once more in Netflix’s V-Wars
It was announced today that Netflix and Ian Somerhalder will be teaming up for V-Wars. The 10-episode series will be an adaptation of IDW’s comic series of the same name written by best-selling author Jonathan Maberry.
Somerhalder will be portraying the starring character, Dr. Luther Swann, in V-Wars. Swann gets introduced to the horrific world of the vampiric when his best friend, Michael Fayne, succumbs to the disease, turning into a vampire and feeding on the blood of others. It doesn’t take long for the disease to spread. And, much like the bubonic plague, the disease influences society’s fracture and disarray into chaos. Swann will race against the clock to figure out how to save his friend. However, his friend carves his way to become the leader of the bloodsuckers.
Ian Somerhalder is no stranger to the supernatural. He’s become most known for his work in ABC’s Lost and The CW’s The Vampire Diaries as Damon Salvatore. He currently has a pod (production overall deal) with Warner Bros. Television through Rare Bird Productions, a production company he and his wife and actress Nikki Reed created.
High Park Entertainment will be producing alongside IDW Entertainment. William Laurin (1-800-Missing) and Glenn Davis (1-800-Missing) will serve as showrunners for V-Wars. Brad Turner (Stargate, Stargate-Atlantis) will direct. He will also executive produce alongside High Park’s Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden. IDW Entertainment president David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams, and Marada Pictures’ Games Gibb also executive produce.
