24: Legacy’s Anna Diop cast as Starfire in the Teen Titans live-action series
24: Legacy‘s Anna Diop has been cast in the upcoming live-action series Titans as the comic book character Starfire, according to Deadline. The series comes to us from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schecter for Warner Bros. TV. Newcomer Teagan Croft was recently cast as the character of Raven. Titans will premiere in 2018 as part of the upcoming DC digital service.
Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever. The show will be written by Akiva Goldsman (Star Trek: Discovery, Underground), President and CCO of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns (The Flash, Arrow) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Supergirl).
Anna Diop’s character Starfire first appeared in a preview story that was part of DC Comics Presents #26 in October of 1980. Starfire, also known as Koriand’r, is described as an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, Starfire has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.
Anna Diop is known for her work on 24: Legacy, The Messengers and Something About Her. She’s also been seen as Isabel in the TV series Greenleaf.
