Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum to star in a comedy from Amazon Studios
Amazon Studios is developing a comedy TV series starring Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park), according to THR. The half-hour series is as yet untitled and was created by The Simpsons writer/producer Tim Long for Imagine Television.
DeVito and Goldblum will play “an iconic music duo from the past.” According to the official synopsis, Matt Downey (Goldblum) and Arlo Finkleman (DeVito) “are forced to reunite despite their longstanding hatred for one another. As the talented but strong-willed pair attempt to reconcile, they turn to the people who somehow manage to love these two incandescent idiots — their wives, ex-wives, children, managers, friends and lovers — all of whom turn out to be as brilliant, infuriating and frustratingly lovable as Matt and Arlo themselves.”
Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, DeVito and Goldblum will executive produce the show. Imagine TV’s Jon Radler will oversee for the company. The show will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
Danny DeVito has won a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for his work on the TV series Taxi, which ran from 1978-1983. He’s currently starring on the FX comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is in its twelfth season and has been renewed for seasons 13 and 14. He’s also known for his work in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Batman Returns and is the voice of the Lorax in the 2012 film.
Jeff Goldblum was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in the TV series Will & Grace. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Film, Live Action for Little Surprises alongside Tikki Goldberg. Goldblum is also known for his work in Jurassic Park, Independence Day, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Fly. He’ll next be seen in Thor: Ragnarok and will return as Dr. Ian Malcolm for the Jurassic World sequel.
