Nick Zano Brings a New JSA Connection to Legends of Tomorrow

Nick Zano has joined the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as Dr. Nate Heywood

The CW‘s time-traveling superhero ensemble series has gained a new cast member today as Deadline reports that Nick Zano (Minority Report) has joined the cast as DC Comics‘ Dr. Nate Heywood, aka the third Commander Steel.

In the closing minutes of the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season one finale, the team is preparing to enter their time-traveling ship, The Waverider, when another Waverider appears in the sky above them and crashes to the ground. A lone survivor exits from the wreckage, making the claim that if they got on that ship they’d all die and that he was sent back by Heat Wave himself, Mick Rory. That mystery man reveals himself as Rex Tyler (the superhero Hourman), a member of the Justice Society of America.

The Justice Society of America originally debuted in 1940’s “All-Star Comics” #3 as a precursor to the Justice League. The invulnerable Commander Steel didn’t make his first appearance until 1978’s “Steel, The Indestructible Man” #1, however. The comic book version of Nate Heywood then debuted in 2007’s “Justice Society of America” #1, taking up his grandfather’s legacy. It’s quite likely that we’ll see Nick Zano’s version follow suite.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The ATOM, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Professor Martin Stein & Jefferson “Jax” Jackson/Firestorm, and Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave. Wentworth Miller, who plays Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, will no longer appear as a series regular on the show but has instead signed a new deal with Warner Bros. TV allowing him to appear across all of their DC series on The CW.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, Chris Fedak and Sarah Schechter.
