Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell & Kate Hudson Join The Barbary Coast TV Series

According to Deadline, Mel Gibson (Braveheart, The Passion of The Christ) will direct, co-write and play a recurring role in a new TV series titled The Barbary Coast for The Mark Gordon Company. Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and Kate Hudson (Mother’s Day, Almost Famous) will headline the show, which is set during the Gold Rush of 1849.

Based on “Gangs of New York” author Herbert Asbury’s book, The Barbary Coast centers on an infamous section of San Francisco that became a center of crime and depravity for nearly seven decades following widespread gold speculation in the region.

“Most people don’t know the scandalous history behind San Francisco, and ‘The Barbary Coast’ offers a rich portrayal of a period when success was often attained through illicit and brutal means,” said Mark Gordon. “I’m excited that Kurt and Kate are working together alongside Mel, whose astute direction will bring this devious time in our history to life.”

Russell will serve as executive producer on the series with actor siblings Kate and Oliver Hudson. Gibson, Bruce Davey, Wyatt Russell and Rick Nicita will also executive produce, with Entertainment One handling international distribution.
