USA Network will postpone the Mr. Robot season finale until next week due to this morning’s tragic shooting
USA Network has elected not to air the Mr. Robot season finale tonight as originally planned due to the fatal shooting that took place this morning in Virginia.
“The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia,” reads an official statement from USA. “Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”
Mr. Robot follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world.
Mr. Robot also stars Portia Doubleday (Her), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”).
A hit for the network, Mr. Robot was renewed for a second season even before the first episode aired. The second season, which will include a minimum of 10 episodes, will premiere in 2016.
From Universal Cable Productions, Mr. Robot hails from writer and executive producer Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and executive producers Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”).
Titled “eps1.9_zer0-day.avi” (all of the episode titles so far have used file names), the Mr. Robot season finale will air next Wednesday, September 2 on USA.
