The Flash adds a new villain and hero

Casting continues for the upcoming second season of The Flash, and now two more have joined the series as both a hero and a villain.

TVLine reports that newcomer Violett Beane will play the female speedster Jesse Quick. The daughter of the golden age character Johnny Quick in the source material, for the series she’s described as “a brilliant but quirky college student who gets caught up in the battle between The Flash and Season 2’s big bad, Zoom.”

Comic Book also brings word on casting with the inclusion of Demore Barnes (“12 Monkeys,” “Hemlock Grove”) as Henry Hewitt, AKA the villain Tokamak. In the comics, the character has energy absorption powers and was a manipulative businessman; for the series he’s described as “a charming, but cocky scientist who was affected by the same Particle Accelerator explosion that created the Flash. When Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) recruits him to join the team at S.T.A.R. Labs, Hewitt jumps at the opportunity to fulfill his destiny as a powerful meta-human.”

In addition, EW reports that Malese Jow is set to reprise her role as reporter-turned-love interest Linda Park for a few episodes in the new season.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. It’s executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter.

Following the defeat of Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash quickly turned their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, which fans last saw consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but will he actually be able to save his city from impending doom?

The Flash will premiere its second season on Tuesday, October 6 at 8 p.m. EST.
