The series is said to be based on what Bamford has accepted to be “her life.” The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian’s life, tell the story of a woman who loses – and then finds – her s**t.
Pam Brady, Mitch Hurwitz and Maria Bamford are executive producers on the single camera comedy series “Lady Dynamite,” which Netflix has ordered thirteen 30-minute episodes of for debut on the streaming service at a yet-to-be-determined date.
A gifted impressionist known for her off-kilter characters and unique stage presence, Bamford has previously been seen under the umbrella of Netflix for the experimental “Maria Bamford: The Special Special Special,” in which the comic performs her entire show for her parents in her living room, as well as the feature-length Comedians of Comedy documentary, one of the first such films to be financed by Netflix. “The Comedians of Comedy” was a tour organized in 2004 around then lesser-known alternative comedians Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, Brian Posehn and Bamford.
Bamford is also known for television appearances on shows like “Arrested Development,” “Louie,” “Maron” and as a frequent guest voice on “Adventure Time.”
