FOX has picked up the comedy series “New Girl” for a fifth season, it was announced today by David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
“Four seasons in, ‘New Girl’ continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television,” said Madden. “The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of Liz, Brett, Dave and the entire ‘New Girl’ team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”
The series will celebrate its landmark 100th episode during the upcoming 2015-2016 season.
In “The Right Thing,” the next all-new episode of “New Girl,” airing tonight, Tuesday, March 31 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT), Houston Texans 2015 Pro Bowl Defensive MVP J.J. Watt, Nora Dunn (“Saturday Night Live”) and Nasim Pedrad (“Mulaney”) guest-star. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) crashes a funeral, hoping to delete a “sext” she recently sent to the deceased. Then, Schmidt’s mom, Louise (Dunn), arrives in town for a visit and demands he write thank-you notes for his bar mitzvah gifts, and Winston is desperate to be off-duty friends with his police partner, Aly (Pedrad).
“New Girl” stars Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated actress Zooey Deschanel as a smart, spirited and single young woman who navigates her way through the highs and lows of modern friendship and romance, alongside her four male roommates (Jake Johnson, Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Damon Wayans, Jr.) and her beautiful best friend (Hannah Simone). Created by Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”), “New Girl” is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Meriwether, Dave Finkel, Brett Baer, Jake Kasdan, Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope are executive producers.
