News broke last August that the world of Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, based on Philip K. Dick’s short story “The Minority Report,” was headed to the small screen. Now Variety says that FOX has given the green light to the pilot for the 2015-16 season.
The 2002 release, starring Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton and Max von Sydow, earned $358.4 million at the worldwide box office. In the film, Cruise plays Chief John Anderton, a law enforcement official working for a special police unit in Washington DC that uses a small group of individuals with precognitive abilities to stop crimes before they ever happen.
According to the trade, the project from Spielberg’s Amblin TV is set 10 years after the film’s PreCrime in Washington, D.C. The drama will center on one of the three precogs who is struggling to lead a normal life because he’s haunted by visions of the future. He may find a purpose to his gift after meeting a detective haunted by her past.
Max Borenstein (Godzilla) is writing and executive producing with Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Kevin Falls will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
The pilot is being developed by Twentieth Century Fox TV and Paramount TV.
