CBS and Worldwide Pants Incorporated announced today that David Lettermanâs final broadcast of his âLate Showâ will air on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on CBS. He will be replaced by Stephen Colbert, whose Comedy Central show âThe Colbert Reportâ ends its run on December 18.
âDavid Letterman has given to all of us a remarkable legacy of achievement and creative brilliance that will never be forgotten,â said Leslie Moonves, President and CEO of the CBS Corporation. âItâs going to be tough to say goodbye, but I know we will all cherish the shows leading up to Daveâs final broadcast in May.â
The longest-tenured late night talk show host at more than 32 years, Letterman, announced his retirement on the April 3 broadcast after hosting CBSâs âLate Showâ for 22 years, and 32 years altogether as a late night host. Since premiering on August 30, 1993, the comedy talk panel program has scored 73 Emmy Award nominations, winning nine. Lettermanâs late night TV hosting debut came on Feb. 1, 1982 with the premiere of NBCâs groundbreaking âLate Night with David Letterman.â As of May 20, 2015, Letterman will have hosted 6,028 total episodes of both âLate Nightâ and âLate Show.â
âThe Late Show with David Lettermanâ is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope and Rob Burnett are the executive producers. Jerry Foley is the director.
