Deadpool & Wolverine star Rob Delaney has opened up about his character’s return in Marvel Studios’ first-ever R-rated movie.
Delaney first played Peter in 2018’s Deadpool 2, where he was introduced as a normal guy who joined Wade Wilson’s X-Force despite not having powers. Even though the character initially died during the first half of the movie, Deadpool was able to prevent his death after using Cable’s time-travel watch. As seen in the previous Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, Peter has become one of Wade’s close friends.
Why Deadpool & Wolverine star Rob Delaney thinks Peter shouldn’t get powers
Speaking with GamesRadar+, when asked about the possibility of Peter getting superpowers, Delaney admitted that he doesn’t really want his character to obtain powers.
“Oh, I hope not,” Delaney said. “I think Peter should have to work with what he’s got because, you know, with limitations, you can discover special skills – they might not be magical, but you might be able to do something that other people can’t do because they’re relying too hard on their powers. I mean, like, ‘Look at me, I’ve got an adamantium skeleton.’ I mean, enough of that, right?”
Deadpool & Wolverine is directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay written by Reynolds, Levy Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. The threequel features returning Marvel stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio. They will be joined by MCU newcomers The Crown’s Emma Corrin and Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen, who will respectively play Cassandra Nova and TVA agent Paradox.
The film will arrive in theaters on Friday, July 26.
