After a two-year hiatus, Invincible returned for Season 2 in November 2023. After the fourth episode aired on November 24, the series went on a mini-break and did not return for its final run of episodes until March 2024. Invincible creator Robert Kirkman addressed the controversial decision to split Season 2 with Variety.
“I’ve certainly heard from people who didn’t care for it,” Kirkman said. “I understand that when you’re enjoying a thing and it gets taken away and given back to you at a later date — not the best. But it was a necessity for the production of Season 2.”
Despite the backlash, Kirkman believes Invincible Season 2 “went well,” considering the series continues to be a huge hit for Amazon’s Prime Video.
“Overall, I think it went well,” Kirman continued. “The response to the last half of Season 2 has very much been, ‘Wish there hadn’t been a split, love the last half of Season 2.’ We’re still hitting number one on the Amazon platform. I don’t think it caused any real, lasting detriment to the show. But, you live and learn, so we’ll have to see how things go moving forward.”
Who Is Involved In Invincible?
The official synopsis reads: “From The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, and based on the Skybound/Image comic of the same name by Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, Invincible is an hour-long, adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.”
Steven Yeun voices the role of Mark Grayson, with Sandra Oh as Mark’s mother, Debbie, and J.K. Simmons as Mark’s superhero father, Omni-Man. Invincible’s impressive voice cast also stars Gillian Jacobs, Seth Rogen, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, Zachary Quinto, Mahershala Ali, Khary Payton, and Mark Hamill.
Invincible Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Prime Video. Amazon renewed the series for a third season.
