Lionsgate is developing a new John Wick series and an animated Twilight show.
Per Deadline, Lionsgate’s Michael Burns announced that the company was developing both a John Wick and a Twilight series during a Q&A at the Morgan Stanley media conference on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
“We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that,” Burns said.
It was first reported that a Twilight series was in early development at Lionsgate Television in April 2023. Deadline reports that Lionsgate was planning to make the series animated from the get-go, though no writer or showrunner has been announced to be attached to the project at this time.
Based on Stephanie Meyer’s novels, the first installment of the Twilight film series was released in 2008. It was followed by four more installments — 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon, 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 2011’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2.
It’s not immediately clear if the animated series will readapt Meyers’ novels or take the franchise in a new direction.
There’s already been one John Wick series so far
The John Wick series follows the release of The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a three-part prequel show that premiered on Peacock in September 2023. “We ended up making a very relatively short-term deal on that show with Peacock and Amazon,” Burns said.
Further plot details regarding the John Wick series remain under wraps at this time.
So far, there have been four films in the John Wick franchise: 2014’s John Wick, 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2, 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, and 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. Len Wiseman is directing a spin-off movie starring Ana de Armas, Ballerina, which is currently scheduled to release on June 6, 2025.
