Criminal Record star Cush Jumbo revealed that the second season of the crime thriller series is in the works. The actress, who played Detective Sgt. June Lenker in the Apple TV+ series, confirmed the news during her visit to Watch What Happens Live with host Andy Cohen.
When asked by Cohen about anything she knows about Criminal Record Season 2, the actress responded (as per Deadline), “There will be.” Apart from starring in the British crime thriller, Jumbo also served as the show’s executive producer alongside co-star Peter Capaldi, who played Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty.
What is Criminal Record about?
The crime thriller series centers on two competitive detectives, Daniel and June, who both embark on a quest to get their hands on an old case that the former had previously handled. June, who believes that someone has been unfairly convicted of a crime, tries her best to uncover the truth while Daniel works against her to protect his long-standing legacy.
Billed as a “powerful, character-driven drama,” the official synopsis for Season 1 reads: “An anonymous phone call draws two brilliant detectives into a confrontation over an old murder case — one a young woman in the early stages of her career, the other a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy. The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain.”
In addition to Capaldi and Jumbo in the leading roles, Criminal Record boasts an impressive cast, with Shaun Dooley starring as DS Kim Cardwell, Zoë Wanamaker as Maureen, Charlie Creed-Miles as DS Tony Gilfoyle, Cathy Tyson as Doris Mathis, and Stephen Campbell Moore as Leo Hanratty. Moreover, Dionne Brown, Tom Moutchi, and Aysha Kala star in recurring roles.
The series is written and created by Paul Rutman and directed by Jim Loach and Shaun James Grant. Executive producers are Rutman, Capaldi, Jumbo, and Elaine Collins.
All eight episodes of Criminal Record are available to stream on Apple TV+.
