Reba McEntire is set to star in an NBC sitcom from the Reba team, with the news coming more than two decades after McEntire’s popular self-titled family sitcom.
What’s Reba’s NBC pilot about?
The potential new series would be a multi-cam comedy. Reba (McEntire) inherits her father’s restaurant, but she’s less than thrilled once she learns that her business partner in this endeavor is the half-sister she never knew she had.
The comedy hails from Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel, and Mindy Schultheis, all of whom were executive producers on the Reba sitcom. The project, which is in collaboration with Universal Television, has the distinction of being the first official pilot order for the 2024 broadcast pilot season, which was impacted by the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, according to Deadline.
McEntire is part of the overall NBC roster having recently joined The Voice as a coach. She’ll be back for Season 25, which premieres on February 26. The country music singer also showed off her more dramatic acting chops in the third season of the ABC crime drama Big Sky.
The original Reba ran for six seasons from 2001 to 2007 and also starred Christopher Rich, Joanna García, Steve Howey, Scarlett Pomers, Mitch Holleman, and Melissa Peterman. Though talks of a possible Reba revival have occasionally popped up, nothing has materialized.
