Found creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll and star Shanola Hampton discussed the Season 1 cliffhanger. They also touched on what the scene could mean for the second season of the NBC crime procedural.
The final episode of Found saw Gabi Mosely (Hampton) revealing to her crisis management team that she had been keeping her childhood kidnapper in her basement. The last moments of Season 1 then revealed that the now-escaped kidnapper is targeting someone closest to Gabi: Lacey Quinn (Gabrielle Walsh).
Gabi was a kidnapping victim herself and has managed to escape with Lacey from their abductor, Hugh “Sir” Evans (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). With Season 1 concluding with Lacey seemingly in danger, Hampton — in an interview with TV Insider — revealed what could happen to Lacey.
“That’s her biggest fear… that he is somewhere where Lacey is. I think that he would threaten, but I think that in his mind there is a version of life that he and Gabi live together — not in a romantic way, but that they’re partners and he has her,” Hampton told TV Insider.
Hampton added, “And if he killed Lacey, he knows that there would be no chance of that ever, ever happening. Would he torture? Would he hurt? But to actually kill? There’s no coming back from that. And I think that that keeps Lacey alive or I think that that would stop him.”
Furthermore, Carroll suggests that Sir might be underestimating Lacey all along. “There is more of Gabi in Lacey than I think even Lacey realizes and she’s been on a journey, and I think we’re going to see the culmination of that journey and in a very surprising, shocking way.”
