Legendary director Frank Darabont is in talks to helm two episodes of the final season of Stranger Things.
Darabont Returns to Horror
Jeff Sneider revealed the news on The InSneider.
Darabont is responsible for all-time classic Stephen King adaptations The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, and The Green Mile. He also previously acted as director and showrunner for The Walking Dead until a falling out with AMC.
It’s another great match with the show, as Stephen King’s influence is clear on the hit Netflix series, so having a bonafide expert on adapting and understanding King involved will be fitting.
It will be something of a return for Darabont as he’s been out of the director’s chair for a decade. He last appeared to helm episodes of his show Mob City in 2013.
Shawn Levy (Deadpool 3) and The Duffer Brothers will direct other episodes in the final season of Stranger Things with the Duffers taking on 5 of the 8 episodes. Dan Trachtenberg (Prey) had originally been penciled in to direct as well, but scheduling conflicts appear to have seen him exit the show.
Stranger Things’ final season will be its largest yet, with feature-length episodes once again being the order of the day.
Stranger Things Season 5 was supposed to begin filming in 2023, but the Hollywood strikes paused all production on the show. Now, the series is expected to start production in Janaury 2024.
