Yu Yu Hakusho Live-Action Adaptation Sets Netflix Release Date

Netflix has finally announced a release date for the live-action adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho. Based on the popular manga series of the same name, the upcoming television series will soon grace the platform on December 14.

The streamer announced two years ago that a project based on the popular manga was in the works. Though the teaser didn’t reveal much other than the release date, Team Urameshi will return this time in the form of a live-action series.

The story follows Yusuke Urameshi, a teenager who was struck and killed by a car. Fortunately, Yusuke is brought back to life and given the title of “Underworld Detective” after passing a series of tests set up for him by Koenma.

Another Live-Action Anime To Anticipate Following the Success of One Piece

The upcoming show is said to have followed the same approach to create the well-received live-action adaptation of One Piece. The streaming service assured that the series would remain true to its source material — which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump for four years since 1990 — while giving it a new spin so that fans could encounter the characters “in ways that have never been seen before.”

Directed by Sho Tsukikawa (You Shine in the Moonlight), the live-action Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation reportedly took five years to complete in order to ensure that all of the important characters were accurately portrayed. The show’s cast members will include Takumi Kitamura (Tokyo Revengers), Jun Shison (Ranman), Kanata Hongo (The Prince of Tennis), and Shuhei Uesugi (Our 30 Minute Sessions).
