Following its series debut last July 27, Peacock has announced that Anthony Mackie’s Twisted Metal premiere has set a new audience record for the streamer. According to Deadline, Nielsen data has determined that the 10-episode first season of Twisted Metal has garnered 400 million viewing minutes during its opening weekend, making it Peacock’s most-watched comedy premiere to date.
What is Twisted Metal about?
“The half-hour-long series follows a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland,” reads the synopsis. “With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”
Twisted Metal is the live-action TV adaptation of PlayStation’s video game series of the same name. Described as a high-octane action comedy, the Peacock series is written and executive produced by Michael Jonathan Smith, who is also serving as the showrunner. It stars Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, Will Arnett and Joe Seanoa, along with guest stars Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, Lou Beatty Jr.
Executive producers are Mackie, Arnett, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Marc Forman, Jason Spire, Peter Principato, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Hermen Hulst, with Kitao Sakurai directing multiple episodes. It hails from Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television.
