Directed and produced by Ry Russo-Young, Nuclear Family on HBO Max is a docuseries about her life and gay parenthood. Ry and her sister Cade were born to a lesbian couple, Sandra Russo and Robin Young, through different sperm donors. The family’s relationship with the donors was cordial until one of them sued Ry’s mothers for paternity and visitation rights. Shot over 15-20 years, the series attempts to understand what makes a family and follows the legal battle that led to a landmark decision.
