Bruce Campbell Gives Update on Animated Evil Dead Series

Bruce Campbell Gives Evil Dead Animated Series Update

After mentioning that an animated take on the Evil Dead franchise last year was in the works last year, not too much has been seen or heard from on that front. According to Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell, though, the series is still in active development.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting (via Toonado.com), Campbell revealed that the animated series is still in the works, with him saying that they are “actively pursuing it.” According to Campbell, though, the fact that director Sam Raimi is so busy is what is contributing to the delay of the series.

“All I can say is we’re actively pursuing it,” said Campbell. “Sam’s a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he’s got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world. It’s one thing to get an animator and say, ‘Hey, animate this!’ You’ve got to know what you’re going to animate.”

“I look forward to it, because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have,” Campbell went on to joke.

Campbell originally mentioned that an animated series based on the Evil Dead spin-off series Ash vs. Evil Dead was in the works last year, although he didn’t say much at the time. While fans wait for more information on an Evil Dead animated series, they will have a new Evil Dead film to check out this year when Evil Dead Rise premieres on April 21, 2023.

That film will be led by Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings) and Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock), along with Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The Girlfriend Experience), and Nell Fisher (Northspur). Executive producer and franchise star Bruce Campbell previously confirmed that the upcoming film wouldn’t have any ties to the previous films and will mainly center around the Necronomicon.
