The finale to Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law took many viewers by surprise, but according to actress Tatiana Maslany, it was just one of several potential endings in play.

The ending for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law that ended up being used was a highly self-referential one. In true breaking-the-fourth-wall fashion, Jen Walters literally makes her way onto the Disney+ welcome screen and into the Marvel: Assembled series, where she confronts Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, only to discover he is actually an A.I. known as Knowledge Enhanced Visual Interconnectivity Nexus (K.E.V.I.N. for short). The two then argue for a better season finale for her show.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Maslany revealed that head writer Jessica Gao actually told her that there around 20 different versions of the ending. While she didn’t see many of them, the other one that she did see “was very different, a little more serious and less like Jen’s version” of the ending.
“Jessica and I talked about the ending a lot because tonally it could have gone in all kinds of different ways,” Maslany said. “Jess said that there were like 20 versions of it. I never saw 18 of those versions, but I did see two: the one that we went with and then one that we shot prior.”

Maslany went on to say that the ending that was eventually chosen felt much more in line with the overall tone of She-Hulk.
“It was [more of] She-Hulk, so it was way too expensive, first off. And it had a different strategy to it,” said Maslany. “The thing that I love about this one is that we get back to Jen feeling like K.E.V.I.N.’s her collaborator and like an equal, and that her ideas deserve respect. Even sitting down on the ground and asking about the X-Men is like, ‘We’re buddies now,’ you know what I mean? Something about that feels very Jen, and feels very funny.”
The entirety of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is now available to watch on Disney+.
