Many characters in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Moon Knight have yet to be revealed, but now, we do know who actress May Calamawy is set to play in the series.

In a new image released by Disney, Calamawy can be seen standing next to Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector/Steven Grant. In a caption associated with the image, Disney reveals Calamawy to be playing Layla El-Faouly.
As far as Marvel comics go, El-Faouly doesn’t seem to be an actual character to have appeared in the Moon Knight books, although it’s highly likely that she is a combination of several characters to have appeared in the series in the past. Marvel is no stranger to taking characters and merging them into one, so Calamawy’s character being wholly original wouldn’t be too shocking.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight will feature the introduction of Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac in the titular role of Marc Spector, which marks the iconic superhero’s live-action debut and is expected to be featured in future MCU films.
“It follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life,” says the official synopsis. “Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt. ”
The series will also star Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, May Calamawy, and the late Gaspard Ulliel as Midnight Man. Isaac is also serving as an executive producer.
