The El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California was host tonight to the premiere of Marvel Studios’ latest adventure, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. There, Marvel Entertainment’s own online reporter caught up with Stephen S. DeKnight, the showrunner of the upcoming Marvel Netflix series, “Daredevil.”
“We’re going for a kind of very gritty, 1970s New York feel for the show,” says DeKnight. “We love the idea of beauty in the decay of the city and Hell’s Kitchen being a place that is both horrible and beautiful at the same time. That’s why Matt Murdock loves it and wants to protect it.”
Last year, SuperHeroHype speculated that “Daredevil” (and the accompanying “Iron Fist,” “Jessica Jones,” “Power Man” and the team-up series, “The Defenders”) might take place in the 1970s of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the official synopsis has since confirmed that “Daredevil” will be set in modern day, it’s still possible that, as speculated in the original article, the 1970s sequences of the recent Marvel One-Shot “Hail to the King” served as a test for the approximate style.
DeKnight also goes on to hint that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin will be one of the scariest villains the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen. Check out the full video in the player below:
