Julie and The Phantoms Canceled at Netflix After One Season

Executive producer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical trilogy) took to Instagram to confirm that Netflix officially decided not to renew Julie and the Phantoms for a second season. The cancellation comes after more than a year since the musical dramedy series had debuted its 9-episode first season. In Ortega’s post, he also went on to their fans called “Fantoms,” for their unrelenting love and support.

Julie and the Phantoms starred Madison Reyes as Julie, Charlie Gillespie as Luke, Jeremy Shada as Reggie, Owen Patrick Joyner as Alex, Booboo Stewart as Willie, Cheyenne Jackson as Caleb, Carlos Ponce as Ray, Sonny Bustamante as Carlos, Jadah Marie as Flynn, Sacha Carlson as Nick, and Savannah Lee May as Carrie.

“High schooler Julie lost her passion for music after her mom died last year. But when the ghosts of three dreamy musicians from 1995 suddenly appear in her mom’s old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit beginning to reawaken, and she’s inspired to start singing and writing songs again,” reads the synopsis. “As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.”

From Emmy Award-winning director Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Descendants), the series was created and executive produced by Dan Cross and Dave Hoge (The Thundermans, Pair of Kings), who both served as showrunners. It was also executive produced by George Salinas, with Paul Becker as the choreographer.
