Matador Adds Battlestar Galactica Star James Callis

El Rey Network announced today that James Callis (“Battlestar Galactica,” Bridget Jones’ Diary) has been cast in a recurring role in the spy thriller, “Matador,” premiering Tuesday, July 15th at 9:00 PM ET/PT. The 13-episode series, from writer/producer Roberto Orci, is the second scripted original to air on filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s English-language entertainment network. Rodriguez directs the series premiere.

Callis will enter the world of “Matador” as Lucien Sayer, a mysterious figure who commands a fraternity of the world’s most elite businessmen, politicians and influencers. Thanks to the actions of telecom mogul Andrés Galan (Alfred Molina), Sayer continues to keep his hand in globe-spanning illegal enterprises. Uncovering Sayer’s ultimate goal will drive the mission of Tony “Matador” Bravo (Gabriel Luna) over the course of the season.

The London-born Callis earned a Saturn Award and an AFI Award for his work as Dr. Gaius Baltar in the Emmy-awarded series “Battlestar Galactica.” He recently wrapped filming for Blood Moon and stars in the upcoming Endemol Australia/Nine Network miniseries Gallipoli.

“Matador” is created by Roberto Orci, Dan Dworkin, Jay Beattie and Andrew Orci. Executive producers are Dworkin & Beattie, also showrunners, alongside executive producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and consulting producer Andrew Orci. Also joining as executive producers are Heather Kadin of K/O Paper Products; El Rey Network co-founder Robert Rodriguez; and FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa.
