The series, which was loosely inspired by Elana K. Arnold’s National Book Award finalist What Girls Are Made Of, Hot Pink, is described as a “biting coming-of-age comedy,” which Elisabeth Holm created. Gellar was set to star in the series, with the rest of the cast reported to have included Nina Bloomgarden, David Iacono, Mimi Davila, Dana Donnelly, and Myra Molloy.
At the moment, it’s unclear what caused Amazon Studios to pass on the pilot, although Deadline is reporting that Annapurna Pictures will be shopping the pilot around to other platforms. Holm is also attached to the project as executive producer, with director Desiree Akhavan and other executive producers Rebecca Green, Sue Naegle, and Ali Krug also attached.

The series, which began finalizing its cast and crew earlier this year, was trying to join a slate of YA content that Amazon Studios has seemingly been interested in the past. The book, which was published in 2017, centered around 16-year-old Nina Faye who, following a heartbreaking breakup, attempts to find out what she’s really made of, and what her passions are.
