Disney+’s Sports Dramedy Big Shot Renewed For a Second Season

Disney+ has officially renewed David E. Kelley’s sports-themed dramedy series Big Shot for a second season. Production is expected to begin sometime in 2022, with Dean Lorey returning as the showrunner. The renewal comes after over two months since the John Stamos-led series concluded its first 10-episode season.

“We are thrilled to be returning with Big Shot,” Kelley said in a statement. “The show has touched so many hearts -John Stamos’ brilliance especially as Coach Marvyn Korn- we look forward to season two and beyond.”

John Stamos added, “This show represents everything Disney is to me – family, inclusion, and unity. But at its core, @BigShotSeries is about guts and heart, and that is what Disney + demonstrated by giving us a second season. I am sending lots of love to the critics and fans that got up on their feet and cheered for us from the sidelines. I’m so grateful to continue to play Coach Korn, a man who learns to let go of pre-conceived judgements and learns from an incredible group of women, helping him to evolve and grow. And yet, he still has so much more to learn… thankfully he’ll get that chance in season two.”

Big Shot centers around Coach Korn who, after getting ousted from the NCAA, is given a chance for redemption with a coaching position at an elite private high school. He soon learns that the teenage players require empathy and vulnerability — foreign concepts for the stoic coach. By learning how to connect with his players, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and oﬀ the court.

The series stars John Stamos, Jessalyn Gilsig, Yvette Nicole Brown, Richard Robichaux and features a talented group of young actors including Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Monique Green, Tisha Custodio, and Cricket Wampler.

Big Shot hails from Disney TV Studios’ ABC Signature. It is created and executive produced by David E. Kelley, Dean Lorey, and Brad Garrett with Bill D’Elia also serving as an executive producer.

Kelley is best known for his works in acclaimed TV shows such as Doogie Howser M.D., The Practice, Goliath, Mr. Mercedes, Big Little Lies, The Undoing, and the most recent one Nine Perfect Strangers.
