The comedy comes from Levy, writer-director Ally Pankiw, and 20th Television Animation, with Levy also lending his voice to one of the lead characters in the project. According to the report, Standing By is a satirical look into the lives of a group of eternally bound, disgruntled guardian angels and the lessons they learn from the humans they’re in charge of protecting, as well as each other.
Levy will reportedly voice Carey, a newly deceased spotter to the group that led a lonely, isolated life in New York City. Levy and Pankiw will write and executive produce.
The order from Hulu sees the streaming giant continue to try and push their way into the adult animation lane, with Solar Opposites already occupying some space on the service.

The series was a huge hit amongst audiences, with the final season of the series setting various records during the 2020 Emmy Awards, and Levy himself winning four awards, including one for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Pankiw most recently directed the six-episode Netflix series Feel Good, and also is a director and executive producer on NBC’s comedy pilot Someone Out There.
