The SVU spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime has been renewed for a second season at NBC.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2 will air as part of NBC’s “all-Law & Order Thursdays” this fall. This will include Law & Order: For the Defense at 8/7c, SVU at 9/8c, and Organized Crime at 10/9c. The newest entry of the beloved series franchise stars Chris Meloni reprising his role from SVU as Detective Elliot Stabler.

According to TVLine, franchise creator Dick Wolf said in a call that Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 2 would likely consist of 24 episodes broken into three eight-episodes arcs. Wolf described each portion of the season by attaching specific movies to them, giving an idea of what you can expect from the upcoming season.
“The first third of the season is The Godfather. The second third is American Gangster. And the last third is Scarface,” Wolf said. “And these villains are going to be really bad guys that give [Stabler] a constant source of energy, outrage, belief in justice, and a different way of pursuing criminals than we’ve had before.”
Additionally, with Meloni’s character having an integral role in both Organized Crime and SVU, Wolf gave some insight on whether we would see more crossover events for the shows.

“We’re going to do it whenever it gives both shows a different way to shine,” Wolf said, adding that he’d likely use as a template the way that his Chicago Fire/P.D./Med shows have handled similar episodes. “And, obviously, there is a portion of the audience that says, ‘Geez, this is frustrating. Why don’t you just put them both on the same show again?’ It’s not exciting. This, to me, is much more engaging.”
Law & Order: Organized Crime made its debut on April 1 on NBC. Its premiere garnered 7.9 million total viewers and a 1.6 demo rating.
