Water Polo Anime RE-MAIN Gets Summer 2021 Premiere Date

A brand new sports anime is officially on the horizon, as the upcoming water polo-based anime RE-MAIN is set for a summer premiere.

In a social media post on Tuesday, RE-MAIN’s official Twitter confirmed that the show will officially premiere in Japan on July 3, 2021. A brand new key visual from the MAPPA anime was also shared, giving fans an early look at the animation style and tone they can expect when the series premieres in July. The series is co-created by chief director Masafumi Nishida, who previously worked on Tiger & Bunny. 

RE-MAIN will tell the story of Minato Kiyomizu, a former competitive water polo player who suffers an incident during middle school. Now a high schooler Minato decides to jump back in and try to fulfill his dream as a water polo player. With friends and his teammates supporting him, he is set for a memorable adventure. No U.S. streaming announcements have been regarding the show, so fans will have to continue to wait for more information.

Yuto Umeura (Vinland Saga) will play the lead role, Minato. Other main cast includes Kotaro Nishiyama (Haikyu!!) as Eitaro Oka, a friend of Minato, Subaru Kimura (Doraemon) as team captain Jo Jojima, and Lynn (Fuuka) as Chinu Kawakubo.

Additional cast members for the series were also confirmed, with Taku Yashiro (Fire Force) playing Keita Kakihana, Yuma Uchida (Fruits Basket) as Rich Momosaki, and Shun Miyazato as Kofi Toguchi. Previously announced were Soma Saitou as Shugo Amihama, Makoto Furukawa as Takekazu Ejiri, Tasuku Hatanaka as Yutaka Babayaro Inomata, and Daisuke Hirose as Yoshiharu Ushimado.
