The Bad Batch: Ming-Na Wen Reprising Fennec Shand in New Star Wars Animated Series

In a recent interview with StarWars.com, Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has confirmed that she will officially be reprising her The Mandalorian role, Fennec Shand, in Disney+’s newest Star Wars animated series The Bad Batch. This confirmation comes after fans recently spotted the animated version of her character in the first trailer for the upcoming series which was released at Disney’s Investor Day last week.

“Do you know how long I’ve had to keep silent about Fennec coming back?” Wen said. “This is the first time I’ve been able to talk about it! Dave, if you wanted to keep it a secret you shouldn’t have put me in the trailer!” she laughs. “Everybody is saying they just want the confirmation. So, yes, it is Fennec! It’s a younger Fennec and she is voiced by me and I’m thrilled and beyond happy that Dave wanted to create more of a backstory for her.”

She added on what fans can expect from the character’s history, saying, “She’s cutting her teeth as a bounty hunter in The Bad Batch…She’s still a loner, a drifter…. There’s just a sense of more recklessness about her, just bravado. You know, a young punk. She’s more adventurous and willing to take greater risks because she doesn’t know what the consequences are.”

Fennec Shand made her Star Wars debut in the fifth episode of The Mandalorian Season 1 where she was introduced in Tatooine as a female assassin and mercenary. In the current second season, the character returned in Chapter 14: The Tragedy where it was revealed that Boba Fett was able to save her life with the use of cybernetics.

The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch – a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.

Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+. “While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”
