A few years ago, Netflix released a trilogy of CG-anime Godzilla films that imagined a post-apocalyptic Earth where the titular beast had free rein over the entire planet. Now, Netflix has revealed plans to tell new stories featuring the King of the Monsters. Only this time, he’ll headline his own animated series.
The new show is called Godzilla: Singular Point. According to Variety, it won’t have anything to do with Netflix’s previous film trilogy, which began with Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters in 2017. Netflix released the final two installments, City on the Edge of Battle and The Planet Eater, in 2018. Those films follow humanity’s attempts to reclaim Earth after the kaiju’s reign of destruction forced them to evacuate the planet thousands of years prior.

However, Singular Point will make use of a similar animation style that combines CGI and hand-drawn techniques. The series comes from two major Japanese anime studios: Bones (My Hero Academia) as well as Studio Orange (Beastars). Atsushi Takahashi is directing the series, with Japanese sci-fi novelist Toh Enjoe also onboard as its writer and editor. Additionally, Doraemon series composer Kan Sawada has been recruited to provide the show’s musical backdrop. Blue Exorcist creator Kazue Kato will handle character design while Studio Ghibli veteran Eiji Yamamori serves as the series’ animator.
Netflix has not set a release date for Godzilla: Singular Point.
