Andie MacDowell Joins Soderbergh's Quibi Survival Series Wireless

Deadline brings word that Golden Globe nominee Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) has signed on for a key role in Quibi’s forthcoming survival thriller series Wireless which will be executive produced by Steven Soderbergh. MacDowell most recently starred in the comedy horror film Ready or Not which had its premiere last August.

The series will be led by Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One, Voyagers) in his first major TV role since appearing as a guest star in 2014 on FOX’s sitcom Last Man Standing which was his TV debut. In addition to MacDowell, Lukas Gage (Euphoria), Francesca Reale (Stranger Things Season 2) and Mace Coronel (Nicky Ricky Dicky and Dawn) have also been cast for recurring roles.

Wireless will follow the story of a self-obsessed college student (Tye Sheridan) who got stranded in the Colorado mountains and his only hope for survival is the tool he has spent his whole life learning to use: his smartphone. The series will be set inside the car he crashed and the quickly dying phone that now is his lifeline.

The series is created by newcomers Zach Wechter and Jack Seidman, who will also serve as executive producers with Wechter also set to direct. Michael Sugar, Cathy Konrad, and Danny Sherman will executive produce along with Propagate’s Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, and Greg Lipstone. Wireless is a co-production by Pickpocket, Treeline Film and Propagate with Christian Heuer and Isabel San Vargas to produce.

Quibi, which is short for “Quick Bites” is scheduled to have its launch on April 6, 2020, with already more than a billion dollars raised from its investors. It has a number of projects currently in development. Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Catherine Hardwick, Steven Spielberg, Paul Feig, Anna Kendrick, Laurence Fishburne, and Don Cheadle are eight of the many producers and talents who are working hard on the production of the said projects

The streaming service, founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, is set to feature series that run two to four hours in length and are broken down into parts that are no longer than 10 minutes in length.
