Woody Harrelson & Justin Theroux Returning to HBO for Watergate Series

HBO proved to be a great boost for Woody Harrelson (Zombieland: Double Tap) and Justin Theroux (Maniac) as the two found acclaimed roles in the first season of True Detective and The Leftovers, respectively, and now they are making their return to the premium cabler in the Watergate limited series The White House Plumbers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The five-episode series, created and executive produced by Veep alums Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, will center on E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux), who planned the Watergate burglary that brought down Nixon’s presidency and will explore the former president’s political saboteurs and how the duo toppled the presidency they were trying to protect.

We’re excited to bring together such a talented team to take on this fascinating look at the internal machinations that brought down the Nixon White House,” HBO president of programming Casey Bloys said in a statement. “We’re especially happy to welcome both Woody and Justin back to HBO and are looking forward to getting started.

Harrelson was nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance in the first season of the crime anthology series True Detective, while the Theroux-starring The Leftovers from Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) received rave reviews from critics and audiences, but was frequently snubbed for nominations at the major awards shows.
