Deadline brings word that AMC Studios is in the process of developing a new drama series adaptation of Borne, based on author Jeff VanderMeer’s sci-fi novel series of the same name. The series will be executive produced by VanderMeer, who will also serve as a creative consultant.

“I’m so excited about this partnership and working with AMC on the Borne universe,” VanderMeer said in a statement. “I’ve had such productive, energizing, and creative conversations with the wonderful folks involved and look forward to the road ahead.”
“The Borne Universe is a totally unique piece of IP and Jeff has created a vivid post-apocalyptic world with enormous opportunity for a visual medium like television,” AMC Studios’ executive vice president of programming, Ben Davis said.
The novel series currently consists of three books: Borne, The Strange Bird and the latest one, Dead Astronauts which just launched today. All three novels are set in a post-apocalyptic future and are taking place within the same mysterious and mind-bending universe.
First published in 2017, Borne follows the story of a scavenger named Rachel, who lives in a ruined city of the future destroyed by an evil company. Her life changes when she suddenly discovers a strange creature that she decided to keep, despite her companion’s warnings and her own reservations.

In 2016, it was reported that Paramount Pictures, who had worked together with VanderMeer on 2018’s Annihilation, had also acquired the film rights to VanderMeer’s Borne novel. However, after almost three years, there haven’t been any new announcements about the project.
